I am in shock

One of my best friends has just died.

For those of you who knew sharonmarais, her husband, John just called me to tell me of her death and ask me to let people in fandom know.

She had the bug that all of us have been fighting off. Felt a little better and returned to work (in a hospital no less) and then felt really horrid on Thursday night. She went to the docs, who told her it was just a virus and to go home and rest.

It was meningitis, and it killed her. She died yesterday at 2:15pm UK time in the hospital at Cambridge.

I was born in 1950.

Her last email to me was on New Year's Day and was full of good wishes and hope for 2009. I'm still in shock.

I will definitely write to John. I can't imagine how much of a shock it was for him and the rest of the family.

Sharon and I were chatting over google chat on Friday. She said she didn't feel good and was going to the doctors. That was the last thing I heard from her.

I just can't believe how suddenly Sharon died. So unnecessary, too. They might've been able to treat her if the doctor had recognized the meningitis on Thursday.

I loved hearing from her, especially by snail mail in the summer. I can't imagine how much you must miss her if you chatted frequently.

I've been deeply sorry and shocked to hear from Sharon's passing. I didn't know her personally, only through her messages and fanworks. I re-read her last post from January 1st, and it was so full of love, kindness, dedication and projects.
She will be missed by all of us. Whatever my beliefs, I still think life's so unfair sometimes.

I just heard of this and I am so very, very sorry. What a shock and massive loss. I've know Sharon since our early days in HL fandom, and kept in touch and contact...and I can't believe she's gone. I'll send a card to John, but please express my condolences and the fact that she was well loved and very dear and a fantastic friend and person all around.

I'm so glad you'll send John a card. Sharon was the sister I've never had, and I miss her a lot already. I think she touched an awful lot of lives. She didn't have a mean bone in her body.

Good in parts. Husband is really losing health, and he is grouchy and nasty because of it, but that isn't his fault; it's just tiresome. I now have a grandson, and he occupies a lot of my time. Other than that, pretty much the same as usual.

I know how he feels. I've spent two years like that. But it's so hard on all the people around the person who is sick. :(

I have one of those little guys, myself, though he isn't quite so little, anymore. They're so much fun.
